The cougar wildlife
sightings database was established by the Clayoquot Biosphere
Trust to collect important wildlife sighting information within
the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Region. The data collected will
provide information about the distribution of wildlife in
the region, and used for research and management purposes.
The Wildlife Sightings Database is administered and maintained
by the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust. The initial focus is on
cougars, as part of the WildCoast
Project, and may be expanded in the future.
The Wildlife Sightings Database is part of the WCVI Information
System, and is accessed through the Web Atlas. Once you create
an account and login, there are tools available to create
sighting observations by mapping a point location and filling
out a form describing the sighting (see the instructions
for more details). Sightings are not available to the
public to view. See the list of FAQs
for answers to questions.
To view the web atlas you must download and install a plug-in
from AutoDesk for MapGuide Viewer. You will only need to do this once. Currently,
you can only view the altas from a PC and using Internet Explorer
5+ browser. We are working on expanding this to Macs and other
browsers (thanks for your patience). Once you can view the
WCVI Information System Web Atlas, click on the cougar button
on the top right hand side of the screen to login to the Cougar
Wildlife Sightings Database.

Instructions for creating your own account and entering sightings are available
here
and by clicking on the 'Questions?' link at the top of the
screen in the Sightings Database window.
For technical questions or problems about entering data in
the on-line system contact infosys@westcoastaquatic.ca. For
questions about cougar sightings, please contact the CBT at
sightings@clayoquotbiosphere.org. See the list of FAQs
for answers to other questions.
Thank-you for participating in the Cougar Wildlife Sightings Database.
