o Bamfield aboard the M.V. Frances Barkley from Port Alberni is recommended as roads to Bamfield can be treacherous in the winter. Special presentations for the symposium have been organized during the February 9th at 8:00 am sailing. The M.V . Frances Barkley departs from the harbor key on the waterfront. There is free parking for cars on Kingsway, 1 block up from the departure point. For further directions as well as alternative means to travel if you do not wish to board the vessel, please consult the Getting There section below.

If you have a few extra days prior to or following the symposium, consider spending a day or two outside of Bamfield:
If you plan to attend the "Barkley Sound Research Symposium" or any of its workshops and visit Canada, you must:

- be in good health
- have enough money for your stay. The amount of money you will need can vary with the circumstances of the visit, how long you will stay and whether you will stay in a hotel or with friends or relatives. For more information, ask the Canadian visa office in your country or region.
