Proceedings of the Barkley Sound Knowledge Symposium will be published as part of an Integrated Ecosystem Assessment (IEA), which will form the basis of Comprehensive Ocean Zoning in Barkley Sound and an Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management Plan for the West Coast of Vancouver Island.  Results of the symposium will also be presented in Barkleypedia -- an online knowledge centre for Barkley Sound.

Instead of submitting abstracts in a traditional symposium format, interested contributors will submit online Wiki abstracts along the lines of specified themes and guidelines. The Symposium Advisory Committee will choose submitted abstracts for presentation during the symposium in either oral or poster format and inclusion in the proceedings / IEA.

The IEA report will be the scholarly basis for informing the marine planning initiative for Barkley Sound. These authors will be given the opportunity to modify their articles into a more appropriate format prior to their inclusion in the IEA, but authors could format their articles for combined purposes from the outset.

The proceedings, Integrated Ecosystem Assessment report, electronic presentations and posters, and other outputs of the Barkley Knowledge Symposium will be available in Barkleypedia--an online Wiki knowledge centre--along with spatial atlases, Barkley Sound Knowledge Network resources, decision support tools for planning, and other elements.
