Jennifer Dart Tofino council and the public will get a look at the district's revised water shortage response plan in May, if not sooner. Mayor John Fraser made that comment in response to a query from Coun. Michael Tilitzky about the progress on the plan, which will provide residents and businesses with a detailed six stage process for water restrictions. Tilitzky said it's vital to get the plan out to the business community before they start to get into the busy tourist season. "I would really lke to have this in place as quickly as possible," agreed Coun. Owen Strudwick. "I think it's imperative the public knows what's happening here." After last summer's water crisis, many people complained that the district's water shortage response plan was ineffective. Mayor John Fraser said the plan is currently being reviewed by the district's engineering firm after it was developed with provincial government staff: "I don't know why Koers is dragging their feet on this." Tilitzky pointed out there will be quite a bit of work to do once the plan is made public to get everyone on board. Mayor Fraser told the Westerley the six stages of water restrictions are tied to flow levels from the creeks on Meares Island, where Tofino gets its drinking water. However, a district staff person still has to physically go over to the island to measure reservoir levels. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Copyright The
