article:  Recreational fishing licenses now available on the Internet

Source: Department of Fisheries and Oceans

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is developing a new way for anglers to access recreational licensing services.

The Department is introducing a new Internet-licensing Website for the 2003 tidal sport-angling season. The new licence Website will allow anglers to access licensing services from their homes, offices, Internet cafes, public libraries, or anywhere in the world that is accessible by phone dial up or high speed connection. The service will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With a valid major credit card, an angler will be able to apply and pay for a recreational tidal license on-line. On completion of a short transaction on the new licensing website, the angler will be able to print a copy of his or her licence at home and immediately go fishing – there will be nothing to pick up or have mailed.

DFO anticipates the Internet licensing system to be available in the spring of 2003. Please visit their website for more information on the new service as well as updates on site construction and the anticipated launch dates.

Please note that use of the new Internet-licensing site is not mandatory - the services provided by our current 500+ vendor point of sale network will continue to be available to recreational anglers.

For more information on Internet licence issue please contact Roy Neighbor, DFO Pacific Region.
