| article: | Hydro project on line in January | ||||||||
|
by Miriam Trevis With a delivery date scheduled for January 15, 2004, work on the Meares Creek hydroelectric power project is progressing satisfactorily according to Synex President, Greg Sunell. The 4 megawatt project located near Muchalat Lake will start selling power to BC Hydro in the New Year as part of Hydro's green energy priority. Synex has also received approval for a smaller project, 3 megawatts, on Cypress Creek which is located slightly nearer to Gold River than Meares Creek. This second project, which is still in the early days of regulatory approvals, has a scheduled delivery date of September 2006. Sunell stated that Sunex's policy of working with small contractors has resulted in spin-off jobs for local labour. "If you work with a big contractor," he noted, "they simply set up camp and bring in their own crews. With small contractors, they hire locally and that is our preference." Work continues on
the pennstock and power lines. The same power lines will be utilised for
the second project once construction is completed. Copyright The
