 Nuu-chah-nulth language project: Sea Creatures

Come hear our language, and see the life in our waters!

These native marine species have sustained West Coast Vancouver Island First Nations peoples for thousands of years. In this gallery you can see the Nuu-chah-nulth spelling and hear the pronunciation of the name of each species.

Can't hear the audio?

The sound you hear is presented using MP3 audio files. Most computers already have the applications pre-installed to play these audio files. However, if you cannot hear the audio, you need to first check to see if the volume is turned up on your computer. If the sound still does not play, you may need to download and install a helper application or plugin such as QuickTime, Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. These plugins are easy to install; just click on any of the links and follow the installation instructions.
